Split ends are common problems in women, regardless of their age group, they can affect any type of hair, but they are very common on long tresses which end up drying the hair. They can result from dry, brittle hair follicles that end up losing protective outer layer. Excessive washing can also lead to split ends and so can harsh winds and dry climate.

Most people turn trimming the split ends to get rid of them, but this is not the only solution. You can use different remedies to get rid of split ends and take precautions to prevent their occurrence.

3 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Split Ends

Trim the Hair

This is one of the best ways of getting rid of split ends. When you take good care of the hair you reduce chances of getting the ends, but if you already have them, then you should consider trimming the ends every six weeks or eight weeks to keep it healthy. Taking too long to trim the hair can lead to the ends moving further up your hair shaft worsening the situation. If you have longer hair, ensure the cut is at least half an inch to an inch. This is because most splits can also be found on lower hair shaft points and not just on the visible hair tips. Regular trims will actually aid hair growth and you will have longer, healthier hair in no time at all.

Use Moisturizing Shampoo to Prevent Split Ends

Herbal shampoo is best and it should be mild to keep further damages to the hair. However, it is also important to ensure that you don’t end up using it more than is expected because it can end up drying the hair too much leading to splits and breakages. When choosing a shampoo, ensure that it has sunscreen to protect the hair from climatic related damages. It is also helpful to use anti-dandruff shampoo to repair the split ends. Remember that dry scalp is one of the causes of the dandruff which leads to brittle hair and split ends for that matter. When you cure dandruff, you will enjoy repairs to your split ends.

Use a Hair Conditioner

Another great way of getting rid of split ends is to use a good hair conditioner. A leave-in conditioner can be used after every shower to prevent drying and avoid the ends in the process. Conditioners that are rinsed out will do very little in getting rid of your split ends, hence the need to opt for the leave-in. You can also deep condition the hair to get rid of the splits. Excessive heat styling can lead to drying, but you can also naturally have very dry hair that is prone to the split ends. Weekly deep conditioning can help take care of these situations to keep the ends at bay and to moisturize the hair to repair existing ends. Make sure that you choose a hair conditioner with natural ingredients known to improve the health and look of your hair.
